Picture of the Day: The Queen of the Skies

In a time where CFRP and GlaRe that have almost no visible rivets, you would almost forget about the rivets. This picture of KLM's Boeing 747-400 'Rio de Janeiro'  (PH-BFR) shows off some of the Boeing 747's rivets and dents, as the sun baths the fuselage in its light. The picture shows only a small number of rivets: The Boeing 747-400 is held together by almost 3 million bolts. Impressive!
KLM is world's oldest airline and still operates 7 jumbo jets. In a few years they will all be phased out, but lower fuel prices have extended the 747's commercial viable life.
